Communication Resources

Communication with parishioners is very important due to the difficult nature of this topic.  This page was created to help parishes address the Independent Reparations Program and Independent Review.

Here you’ll find content for parish bulletins, your websites and social media, and guidance for in-person communications.  Keep watch for Parish Link emails to receive notifications of updates to these pages.

Driving people to the Promise site is your goal. You do not need to create your own page.

When Communicating With…

Parishioners

Please refer parishioners to our Promise website which has all the information related to the Independent Review and Independent Reconciliation and Reparations Program.

Victims

Anyone who comes to you claiming to be a victim should be referred to the Promise website, where they can click File a Claim. You can also refer them directly to the Independent Reconciliation and Reparations Program website (Colorado Dioceses Independent Reconciliation and Reparations Program).

Media

If you are contacted by media with requests to film or for interviews, please direct them to our Archdiocese of Denver Director of Public Relations:

If media or reporters show up unannounced at your parish or school:

  • Always be polite! Do not get angry or aggressive even if you feel provoked. You never know when a camera may be recording.
  • Tell them all interview requests with priests or parish / school staff must go through Mark Haas, our Director of Public Relations.
  • If they are trying to shoot video or do interviews with parishioners: You have the right to ask them to stay off parish property, but they do have a legal right to be on public sidewalks or across the street.
